To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR The duties of this position include accomplishing complex environmental health tasks such as communicable disease investigations and control, environmental health assessments of community systems (i.e. water and wastewater) and establishments (i.e. food, schools, health centers, daycares, jails) and vector control (i.e. rabies, plague, west Nile virus). Additionally, professional registration credentials are required by interagency agreements between IHS and certain agencies (Head Start & Administration on Aging) for review/signature of environmental health surveys/inspections and plan reviews of facilities such as Elderly Nutrition and Head Start School facilities. You must have knowledge of an environmental health service program as would be evidenced by examination and registration by the National Environmental Health Association or reciprocal registration through a State registration examination as a Registered Sanitarian (RS) or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS). A copy of such registration must be included with the application package. BASIC EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT You must meet one of the following to meet the Basic Education/Experience requirement:
A. Have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree, and that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in a science or any combination of sciences directly related to environmental health (such as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or any appropriate agricultural, biological, or physical science). OR B. Have at least four (4) years of experience in inspectional, investigational, technical support, or other responsible work that provided a knowledge and a fundamental understanding of, and the ability to use, environmental health principles, methods, and techniques equivalent to that which would have been gained through a 4-year college curriculum. OR C. Have a combination of education and experience as described above. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To qualify for the grade GS-9, you must have one of the following:
A. Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the Federal GS-7 grade level or pay band in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors), which included:
1) Monitoring and evaluating operations and processes of an environmental health program and identifying areas needing improvement; 2) Conducting facility surveys, investigations and evaluations on environmental health program activities and operations; 3) Compiling and analyzing statistical data related to environmental health for reports, program documents and/or presentations/briefings; 4) Monitoring and analyzing water quality, liquid and solid waste management, food protection, disease control, safety, insect and rodent control, at facilities such as schools and child care institutions for compliance with laws, regulations and ordinances. OR B. Successful completion of at least two full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree, or a Master's or equivalent graduate degree related to environmental health. Examples of qualifying education related to environmental health include study in such fields as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or agricultural, biological, or physical sciences appropriate to the position to be filled. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be determined from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as equivalent to 1 year of full-time study. OR C. Combination of Education and
Experience:
Education described in B above and experience described in A above such that the percentage of required experience plus the percentage of required education equals 100%. (To calculate, first determine your total number of graduate semester hours, and divide that number by 18. Next, divide the total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, add your percentage of education and experience. The two percentages must total at least 100% for you to qualify based on your combination of education and experience.) Only graduate education in excess of one year (i.e., 18 semester hours) may be combined with experience. To qualify for the grade GS-11, you must have one of the following:
A. Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the Federal GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors), which included:
1) Planning and conducting audits or evaluations of environmental health program operations and processes to determine effectiveness and identify areas needing improvement; 2) Conducting analyses and interpretation of scientific test results for reports or other documents; 3) Monitoring and analyzing water quality, liquid and solid waste management, food protection, disease control, safety, insect and rodent control, at facilities such as schools and child care institutions for compliance with laws, regulations and ordinances; 4) Providing consultation and advisory services in environmental health program activities, safety management, emergency management and community injury prevention. OR B. Successful completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent) or 3 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a doctoral degree related to environmental health. Examples of qualifying education related to environmental health include study in such fields as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or agricultural, biological, or physical sciences appropriate to the position to be filled. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be determined from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as equivalent to 1 year of full-time study. OR C. Combination of Education and
Experience:
Education described in B above and specialized experience described in A above such that the percentage of required experience plus the percentage of required education equals 100%. Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
